Meaning is the contract of a rewrite
A rewrite that changes the message is an error even if it reads better. Before you rewrite, decide what the text actually claims, and after the rewrite, confirm every claim still matches. The original meaning is the contract the rewrite must honor.
- Restate the message in your own words before editing
- Edit one sentence at a time and compare each to the original
- Never merge two points into a single different claim
The preserve list
These elements are facts, not style: changing them changes the meaning. Preserve them verbatim while freely editing everything else.
| Element | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Facts and numbers | A changed digit or date is a false claim | Copy the value exactly; do not round unasked |
| Names and terms | Brands, people, places and terminology identify the subject | Keep spelling, casing and official naming |
| Citations and references | Attribution is part of the claim | Keep the reference and its identifier verbatim |
| URLs and identifiers | Broken or altered references corrupt accuracy | Copy them exactly |
| Degree of certainty | Maybe vs. certainly changes the claim | Keep hedge words that reflect the source |
| Tone intent | Formal, casual or friendly is an intentional choice | Adapt the voice but keep the intent you set out to reach |
Avoiding hallucinated additions
When a rewrite adds an example, a figure or a claim that was not in the source, it has crossed from rewriting into invention. Humanizers and revisers must add nothing: if the source does not support it, it does not belong in the rewrite.
Adapting tone without changing content
Changing tone changes voice, not meaning. You can warm up a sentence, make it more direct or adjust formality, as long as the claim, facts and certainty stay unchanged. Read the adapted line against the original and confirm the message is identical.
A verification workflow for rewrites
Use a checklist at the end of the rewrite so preservation is verified rather than assumed.
- Diff the rewritten text against the source
- Confirm every number and date is identical
- Confirm every name, brand and term is correct
- Confirm citations, URLs and references are unchanged
- Read each claim and ask: is this exactly what the source says?
How Polyglot Tool applies this
Polyglot Tool's AI Text Humanizer is live for English and Spanish. It rewrites text in the same language with controls for tone, formality and intensity while protecting factual spans such as numbers, names and URLs. The product goal is naturalness with semantic preservation, not detector evasion or authorship concealment.
Use the Humanizer for stylistic rewriting. If your goal is to change languages rather than style, use a translation tool instead.
